Let Freedom Ring – 5th of July Concert with Free Root Beer Floats

In honor of the United States’ 250th  celebration, the Bell Tower Community Foundation will host “Let Freedom Ring”, a free Mahanay Bell Tower special event on Sunday, July 5 from 1-2 pm.

A concert featuring patriotic music arranged specifically to be played on carillons will be performed at 1:30 by Mark Welty of Cedar Falls.  Welty is a University of Northern Iowa music and German graduate and was an instructor at UNI.  He also taught English, American geography and music in Germany.  A 61-year member of the Cedar Falls Municipal Band, he also was a church organist.  The patriotic tunes to be played for this special event were arranged by Welty for the bell tower carillon.

Free root beer floats will be served at 1 pm on the Bell Tower plaza and the concert will begin at 1:30 pm.  Attendees are asked to please bring their own lawn chairs.

Free admission to the Tower will also be offered from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday, July 5.

Name That Tower Tunes Live

A Mahanay Maestro will play the carillon with songs of their choice.  Individuals or groups will write down the titles of the songs.  The Maestro will announce the titles at the end.  Prizes are awarded!
