SUMMARY:Let Freedom Ring - 5th of July Concert with Free Root Beer Floats
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the United States’ 250th  celebration\, the Bell Tower Community Foundation will host “Let Freedom Ring”\, a free Mahanay Bell Tower special event on Sunday\, July 5 from 1-2 pm. \nA concert featuring patriotic music arranged specifically to be played on carillons will be performed at 1:30 by Mark Welty of Cedar Falls.  Welty is a University of Northern Iowa music and German graduate and was an instructor at UNI.  He also taught English\, American geography and music in Germany.  A 61-year member of the Cedar Falls Municipal Band\, he also was a church organist.  The patriotic tunes to be played for this special event were arranged by Welty for the bell tower carillon. \nFree root beer floats will be served at 1 pm on the Bell Tower plaza and the concert will begin at 1:30 pm.  Attendees are asked to please bring their own lawn chairs. \nFree admission to the Tower will also be offered from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday\, July 5.

DESCRIPTION:The community will enjoy a live concert to celebrate the 54th birthday of the dedication of the Mahanay Bell Tower on Friday\, October 16 from 5 – 6 p.m.  Four local musicians will play 15 minutes each with a variety of tunes.  The Tower Tunes Live Concert will be shared as a Facebook Live event on the Mahanay Bell Tower’s Facebook page.  For those listening in person on the square\, the Bell Tower Community Foundation Board will be passing out 54 Ding Dong treats along with a penny that could be used in the penny press souvenir machine located in the Bell Tower lobby. \nThe Mahanay Bell Tower has moved to October hours open each Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Those wanting to make an appointment for a tour at other times can call Jefferson Matters: Main Street & Chamber at 515-386-2155.

DESCRIPTION:The Bell Tower Community Foundation has scheduled a special Tower Tunes Live-Community Easter Sing-Along event for Easter Sunday.  Becky Greiner will play Easter hymns on Easter Sunday\, April 12 at  12:15 pm on the Mahanay Carillon in downtown Jefferson.  This event is not just a concert\, but a community sing-along in the local homes.  The hymns are a selection of familiar and beloved songs for all denominations. Step outside on your porch or driveway\, or park your car and join in singing.   Foundation members encourage the public to participate through the social distancing guidelines.   \nBecause of Easter Sunday services cancelled in local churches\, the Mahanay Bell Tower offers a unifying musical opportunity to worship together on Easter Sunday.  The bells continue to play each hour digitally with the Westminster Chimes at each quarter hour and several selections after each hour.     \nThe list of hymns that will be played are listed below and the public is encouraged to access the lyrics by googling each or find them in your own hymnals.   A couple of verses of each hymn will be played. \nPlease join the community at the Tower Tunes Live – Community Easter Sing-Along on Easter Sunday. \nSelections will include: \nChrist\, the Lord\, is Risen Today \nJust As I Am \nHow Great Thou Art \nAmazing Grace \nRock of Ages \nI Know that My Redeemer Lives \nMy Faith Looks Up to Thee \nBlessed Assurance \nBeautiful Savior
